I’ve been editing unscripted programming for over 15 years. I come from a NYC documentary film background, and have been living and working in LA for 10 years. I freelance for a variety of clients, including NBC, CBS, CNN, PBS, Discovery, A&E, Netflix, Hulu, Apple+ and more. I was an assistant editor on Michael Moore's Sicko and worked for Bruce Springsteen's film production company for a few years. I've worked with Academy award winner Morgan Neville on a short documentary about Olympic hopefuls as well as 3 seasons on the Emmy-winning United Shades of America. I love it when the technical challenges of a task are matched by the creative imagination of the team responsible for the project. I believe in personally connecting deeply with the stories I work on, so that in turn, audiences can be moved by them. My aim is always to make viewers feel strongly the emotions behind the facts we are revealing. If the tale is sad, I want people crying- if it is amusing, I will push hard for the chuckles-- and if it points out injustice, let's move people to action. In addition to my work as an editor, I've been in a band, Black Dice, for 25 years - playing shows, releasing records, and touring the world. This has given me a unique skill set for dealing amicably with conflict in creative situations, maintaining a level head in spite of crushing pressure, and working hard cheerfully under suboptimal conditions. And I bring all the musical rhythm and force behind my tunes to my work with picture and score on my edits. As a Mexican-American, I strive to bring representation of marginalized peoples both to Post Production and onscreen! While my experience is primarily in linear television and theatrical features, I acknowledge that the medium is moving towards to a streaming and podcast oriented model. Yet I believe that this is a temporary divergence, and that in short order the new media of podcasts and YouTube shows will be produced with many of the conventions and qualities of legacy media. I feel I am well situated to navigate this evolving technical and aesthetic landscape.
